walnut creek where temperatures fell into the 20s last night. the final night for the city's outdoor ice skating rink. a lot of people out there just trying to do their best to stay warm. >> we probably could have picked a better night because i'm all wet and cold. other than that they're having a good time. >> it doesn't feel cold until you get off the ice and then you stop moving. >> because you're wet. >> yeah. >> glad they could laugh about it. the cold snap posing a threat to crops in the central valley but a spokesman for citrus growers say most of those crops should have survived the night. >> for a look at things warming up this morning or when, i guess as cold as it is before the sun comes up, let's turn to sunny christina loren. >> good morning to you. hopefully you had a great weekend. you might be tired from watching the golden globes. make sure you give yourself ample time to reach your destination safely this morning. it's a cold start to the day. look at san jose. we're at 39 degrees here. the coldest city across the bay area as per usual is gilroy at

26 degrees. temperatures are going to continue to fall. what i can tell you is there is a warmup on the way. close to 70 degrees. that's on your seven-day forecast. i'm going to show you when and how long warmer weather will last coming up. let's check your drive back to work monday. >> good morning. 26 in gilroy. my goodness. here's the san mateo bridge. traveling over the water, this bridge is just fine. 92 heading over to the peninsula. fine over the high-rise. over the hill let's look at the maps. 101 and 280 a smooth drive here. traditional overnight slower speeds because of a lighter flow of traffic. a few cars making that easy drive there. then we lose the sensors here. 92 at skyline, highway 35, reports of black ice across the eastbound lanes. that's coming over from half moon bay and joining up with 280. be careful if that is your commute. we are going to check that out and see how impact is. chp had an initial report of two lanes in one direction and one lane in westbound direction. slippery near the peak over the hill. be careful. back to you.

thank you very much. right in the middle of the cold water hot water still off for hundreds of seniors in san jose apartment complex. residents of the town park towers on third street have been without hot water for more than a week now. most are elderly or disabled. they say they've had problems getting hot water since december 3rd. some tenants say they've caught warm water intermittently but it doesn't stay hot long enough for a hot shower. >> it's not a healthy thing to be doing. washing dishes in your cold water you're not getting rid of bacteria. that's what i'm afraid of it. >> a representative for that complex says there's been a problem with a solar water system. residents say their water is still cold. 4:33. the man accused of killing two teenage girls in oakland are expected to answer to charges today. they are set to enter the pleas

this afternoon. facing murder charges in the shooting deaths of best friends bobbie sartain and raquel gerstel. the two girls were shot in east oakland last november. powell is charged with two counts of murder. edwards is charged with being an accessory after the fact. students in san francisco public schools will soon be taking part in active shooter drills. digital versions of the school's floor plans are now being made available to police departments in the coming months. under current safety procedures in the event of a shooting teachers are instructed to move students into classrooms, call 911, lock their doors and prepare to evacuate. gun show organizers say they saw a record turnout at this weekend's crossroads of the west gun show. the gun show says turnout was triple what it was last year. he says it's due to widespread expectations gun laws will become more restrictive following the tragedy in newtown, connecticut. guns were a big draw to the show

but most people came looking to buy ammunition. a runway at sfo remains closed this morning meaning possible delays for arriving flights. crews spent the weekend working on the runway and will wrap things up at 8:00 this morning. the work delayed arriving flights for 45 minutes last night. more delays are expected this month. there are two more weekend closures scheduled for january. a little relief is on the way for commuters on the dumbarton bridge. toll lane four will be reopened this morning between 7:00 and 9:00. it was closed at the beginning of this year because of budget cuts. but that triggered a big-time morning backup back to 880. the lane will only be open for a few hours every day. the metropolitan transportation commission says it could soon be changed to a fastrak only lane. the giants world series trophy continues its tour today with a stop in the east bay. fans will get an up close look at the trophy from 3:00 to a

good monday morning. it's 4:43. california state university venturing into new territory today. the school system's first online program starts today. it's offered through cal state fullerton and it is for business administration. 400 to 500 still more than a

class on a cal state campus but cheaper than competing online programs. other csus are expected to offer online degrees soon. the east bay will accept applications for bachelor's degree in women's studies. apple's newest iphone not doing as well as the company had hoped. for more on the futures, we turn it over to seema mody at cnbc headquarters. >> good morning to you. futures point to a mixed stock market open this morning. asian markets were mostly higher overnight. european markets seeing green this morning. dow gained 17 points in friday's trade at the nasdaq nearly adding four points to close at 3125. a big story that we're watching this morning. apple is reportedly slashing orders for component parts for the iphone 5 due to weak demand. reports saying the tech giant alerted suppliers last month about cutting orders for the screens by half. orders for other parts are also

in san jose. so as we head throughout the day today, it's going stay strfrigio the next two days. it will pump cold air in all day long. a gradual warmup starts through tomorrow and then we get to 65 degrees before the week is done. 51 is your tease for now in fairfield today. 51 in livermore. we'll pick up five degrees tomorrow. accumulate another five degrees by wednesday. up to 60 degrees and then we'll be at 65 to finish off the week holding onto that warmth for the weekend. too cold to get outdoors this past weekend, you'll be able to do so through the upcoming weekend. what i can tell you is no significant rainfall on this seven-day forecast. back to you. >> okay. we're safe to wash the car then. thank you very much. 4:46. the future of a connecticut school caught in the middle of a recent shooting massacre is up in the air. newtown leaders are not sure what to do with sandy hook elementary. yesterday hundreds of people

attended a school board meeting to discuss that issue. some believe the campus should be remodeled to honor the 26 victims. others say the school should just be torn down. while the debate continues, student and faculty resumed classes at a different building in a neighboring town. >> i don't believe any kid should have to go back there and tie those feelings back with the school again. >> not keep it as it is. too many hard memories. i think they should definitely rebuild it and maybe have a memorial there. >> newtown city leaders say it hopes to make a decision by this spring. new this morning, a study revealing some surprising statistics about teen girls behavior on the internet. researchers at cincinnati's children's hospital surveying 200 girls between the ages of 14 and 17. nearly one in three of the girls say they set up an in-person meeting with people they met on the internet. half of them had been physically

or sexually abused over the past year. and the girls who had been abused, they were more likely to have provocative online profiles. girls with parents who check their online profiles and who they communicated with had less risky online behavior. after spending more than a month in the hospital, former president george h.w. bush might get to leave as soon as today. bush's son, former florida governor jeb bush says his father is expected to be released from the hospital on monday. he was first admitted on november 23rd for bronchitis-like cough and transferred to intensive care in december after coming down with a persistent fever and other complications. it's a fact california is losing its youngest population. researchers say the birth rate in california has dropped below two children per lifetime. that rate isn't even enough to replace the exiting population. experts say some of the factors contributing to lower birth rates are the rising cost of living, more women in the

as well. watch santa rosa, petaluma, smaller bridges. a live look at san rafael where we see a slight flow of traffic. south 101 through the curves. no problems or delays. we're watching for reports of black ice. right now the only one we have is for the san mateo hills and 92 and highway 35 around skyline. that's an issue. we're checkering that out. reports in both eastbound lanes. >> when you are busy flexing guns out there, check this one out. a sneak peek into the future of the auto industry. the detroit auto show is one time a year when collective horsepower of the industry gets together. a total of 50 new cars being unveiled in the show including the brand new corvette creating the most buzz out there. there's new technology to talk about that's helping to squeeze the most miles out of the gas powered engine. >> it doesn't necessarily mean electric cars and hybrid cars. those are out there. what we're seeing is just your typical gasoline engine cars getting really good fuel
